SandenVendo's sustainability commitment keywords, explained
In the journey towards reducing the impact of climate change, "Carbon Neutral" and "Net ZERO" are two terms often used interchangeably, but they represent different concepts. Understanding the distinction is essential for organizations like SandenVendo which aim to align with global sustainability goals.
Carbon Neutrality refers to balancing man-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by offsetting them through means as renewable energy, carbon credits, or natural solutions like our reforestation started in 2020 in Italy.

This means that for every ton of GHGs emitted, an equivalent amount is removed or prevented from entering the atmosphere within a defined time horizon. Carbon Neutrality is considered an intermediate goal, ensuring that organizations like SandenVendo are taking consistent steps toward achieving the broader global goal of Net ZERO emissions.
Global standards such as ISO Certifications provide guidelines for achieving and verifying Carbon Neutrality.

Net ZERO focuses on neutralizing the greenhouse gas emissions that remain after implementing all feasible mitigation measures.
An organization achieves Net ZERO when the amount of GHGs it emits is balanced by the amount removed from the atmosphere within a specific time frame. However, the key difference is that Net ZERO requires organizations to reduce emissions in line with a plan that limits global warming to 1.5°C, following the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Net ZERO involves deeper reductions in emissions and plays a critical role in complying with global and regional climate regulations. For companies, Net ZERO is also useful for assessing EcoVadis certifications, which evaluate corporate sustainability.
In 2022 SandenVendo obtained the Gold EcoVadis Medal, and Silver in 2023.
Though both concepts deal with reducing GHG emissions, they differ in approach. Carbon Neutrality is often seen as more achievable in the near term, while Net ZERO represents a longer-term and more challenging commitment.
For this reasons, SandenVendo set a near-term goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and a Net ZERO target by 2050, aligning with global regulations and scientific guidance.
For SandenVendo, Carbon Neutrality and Net ZERO are interconnected milestones on the path to a sustainable future.
